The Center for Media Justice (CMJ) seeks an Operations & Finance Director to join our Lead Staff, and creatively manage information systems, financial planning and human resources. The position is full-time, exempt and is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated individual committed to organizational sustainability and social justice. Salary $42-44K DOE. Who We Are
As a leader in the movement for media justice and communication rights, the Center for Media Justice believes that media and culture are critical tools for creating real justice. That’s why the Center for Media Justice builds communications power and defends the communication rights of youth, communities of color, and organizing groups working for racial and economic justice.

Launched in 2001 to counter racial stereotypes and anti-youth bias in the news, CMJ is a media strategy and action center dedicated to building a strategic and collaborative movement for justice by strengthening media strategy, capacity and action. CMJ works with youth organizing and racial justice groups in the Bay Area and other key U.S. regions to take action against media criminalization of youth and people of color, reframe racial justice in public debate, and transform the current media system into an inclusive public resource.

Principle Responsibilities
The Center for Media Justice is looking for an experienced individual who is passionate about building strong organizations and a strong movement for justice. Financial management experience is required. Primary responsibilities include:

• Work with the Center for Media Justice’s Executive Director, Development Strategist, and Associate Director to ensure the financial health and long term viability of the organization
• Support organizational development by creating and managing operating systems, policies and procedures that improve organizational effectiveness.
• Participate as an active member of the Management Team
• Support organizational development by developing operating systems, policies and procedures that improve organizational effectiveness
• Responsible for bookkeeping and accounting, P&L, payroll, and annual audit
• Oversee organization spending, and produce Cash Flow projections, financial reports, and budgets
• Maintain documentation of contracts and partnership agreements
• Manage efficient information systems, including Center for Media Justice multimedia library
• Manage personnel and benefits administration
• Oversee office and facilities management, including equipment purchasing, tracking, accounts management and coordination with co-tenants
• Lead development, maintenance and improvement of Center for Media Justice information systems
• Supervise administrative staff

The Ideal Candidate
Qualified applicants should have excellent written and oral communications skills, ability to plan and manage
multiple projects, solve problems, work well in a diverse team, and the ability to work occasional nights and weekends. As well as:
• At least 2 years experience in a management position
• At least 1 year financial management experience using QuickBooks
• Experience with supervision, organizational development and board development a plus
• Commitment to racial justice, youth rights and media transformation
• Experience in organization’s using community organizing, leadership development, capacity building and/or strategic communications to affect change
• Ability to work well in fast-paced environment and balance self-sufficiency with collaborative decision-making
• Proficiency with Macintosh computers, MS Word and MS Excel a plus
• Experience with Salesforce or other online CRM
• Strong written and communication skills
• Strong IT and troubleshooting knowledge
• Experience with 501c3 application process a plus
