Description:
LIUNA – the most progressive and aggressive union of construction workers in North America – is seeking a Communications Manager to implement a comprehensive communications strategy on developing high-road job opportunities in emerging “green” economy and energy efficiency sectors.

Responsibilities
• Help oversee and drive strategy to significantly raise union’s identification internally and externally with clean economy sectors.
• In coordination with union’s programmatic departments and its energy efficiency allies and partners, initiate aggressive news media outreach on “green” issues, particularly those involving the creation of family-supporting jobs in the emerging building retrofit industry and energy efficiency industries.
• Pitch reporters and writers to obtain positive news coverage.
• Develop a broad array of cohesive, high-impact online and offline materials and publications that inform, educate and persuade.
• Integrate fully with union’s ongoing rebranding effort.
Additional Qualifications:
Qualifications
• Ability to set and strive toward specific quantitative and qualitative media coverage goals.
• Energetic, enthusiastic and able to occasionally work irregular hours and to travel.
• At least five years of comprehensive communications work, including news media outreach, message development and writing.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills.
• Ability to maintain focus while juggling multiple deadlines.
• Preferably a familiarity with unions and / or other progressive organizations, particularly those involving environmental issues and “green” industries.
• A passion for social and economic justice.
